HOUSTON – Harris County resident Marisa Ramirez claims that Chesmar Homes Ltd. fired her a few weeks after she reported alleged racial workplace discrimination and has filed a lawsuit. Recent court papers filed Dec. 5 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas claim the company singled Ramirez out for unfair treatment because she is Hispanic. At the time of the events for which she sues, the plaintiff was employed as a new home consultant, a position she assumed in June 2007. The suit explains that one of the defendant’s area managers was “very abusive, hostile and antagonistic” towards her, stating he “spoke about Mexicans in a very offensive and derogatory manner.” It further shows that Chesmar pinned other employees’ mistakes on her as well as refused to help her when it came to the purportedly hostile work environment she was experiencing.In May 2010, Morales reportedly received her “first and only” disciplinary action from the respondent to which she says was in retaliation for her prior complaints.
After a month of addressing her grievances in writing, the original petition says, the claimant was fired on June 1, 2010.
A jury trial is requested.
